Have no Doubt.
I'm going back to Gotham
I’m trying to make an effort to make a smi regular nesletter part of my workflow. Just a short one today as last Friday DC comics announced my thing (small but very cool thing ) as a writer.
I’m thrilled to say I’m writing batman again, this time it’s the lead story in The Brave and The Bold #18 which hits the shelves October 23rd.
Even more excitedly, tho it’s a return to Gotham it’s a very personal and heart felt story written for the incredible artist and my good friend Patric Reynolds, my collaborator and co-creator on Blood Stained Teeth.
I love Patric dearly , both as an artist and as human being of the highest order but i often found working with him frustrating , not because he wasn’t professional or he wasn’t easy to work with ( he was on both counts ) but beause he had no idea just how good he was.
All creatives have self doubt , we all suffer from imposter syndrome and I was certainly no different but over the last few years my own response to that feeling has very much been ‘fuck that noise’ and seeing someone as lovely and as talented as Patric suffer as he did I wanted to help.
It was after meeting Patric in real life for the first time at last year’s Thoughtbubble (a fantastic comic convention here in the UK ) that the ‘how it it’ popped in to my head. One of Patric’s dreams is to draw Batman comic and it occured to me then , what if Batman suffered from Imposter Syndrome ? and the story of Batman: Doubt appeared. I emailed some of my editors at DC and we were on.
In the script i sold it to Patric like this… ‘‘ This is a letter for you. You're Batman in this story and this is me telling how talented you are and not to worry.” I told him he would blow people away and he has. Just look at this sneak peak of some of his fully painted Batman art ( coloured by Luis NCT ) featuring Doubt , a brand new batman villain created by us.
Here’s the solicitation text and my variant cover for the issue.
“It runs through all of us--corrupting hope into fear, love into apprehension, and our strongest selves into our weakest. Its name is doubt, and when a mysterious new villain arrives with the ability to wield it as a weapon, Batman will face an inner journey unlike any he's ever experienced!”
I couldn’t be prouder of the story we’ve done and i hope you’ll all preorder and pick up a copy of it.
Many Worlds.
In a few days my Zoop crowdfunding campaign for my new HC artbook will reach it’s halfway point. Ive been blown away by the response (fully funded in 9 hours!) and theres still just over two weeks left to secure a copy. Currently I have no plans to publish this through a conventional publisher so Zoop is the only place you’ll be able to secure a copy.
Oblivion Bar podcast.
Today I was a guest on the Oblivion Bar Podcast. One of my favourite comic podcasts, it’s always great fun to listen to or be a guest on! You can hear me chat about Spectregraph, Many Worlds and Batman:Doubt.
Thats it for now. Take care and chat soon.
